The playable art helicone is a playable desk art piece made from thirty-eight identical pieces of precision-cut wood. The cutting is done using a laser. The pieces are threaded on a brass tube that attaches to a stand that allows the piece to be displayed either as a helix or as a pine tree. The Interactive kinetic art piece transforms from a pine tree shape to a helix and back again just by twisting the stem where it slides into the base. If you don’t want the precision change between these two basic shapes, you can move the individual pieces to suit your fancy.
This ingenious piece of art is part of the Playable ART collection that’s based on mathematical concepts such as the Fibonacci numbers and the golden ratio. The results are spectacular. The playable art helicone is just one of many of these fascinating artworks. Some of them can be played with by hand, while others are powered.
